- Stirrups has invested and installed LED light bulbs throughout the building wherever it’s appropriate including the bar, restaurant, function rooms and bedrooms and has installed low energy bulbs where LED lighting is not possible.
- Mains gas and electricity is only purchased from energy companies with a strict audited environmental policy.
- Timer switches and mobility sensors have been installed as light switches wherever appropriate.
- All non essential computers are turned off at when not in use rather than left in standby
- All radiators in the hotel have individual thermostats to ensure that no unnecessary heat is wasted.
waste
- The hotel has a mixed recycling policy and mixed recycling bins supplied by our waste contractor. We are therefore able to recycle hard plastics, tins, polystyrene, cardboard and paper.
- Our waste contractor is the only contractor in the area that ensures 100% of all recyclable waste it collects does not end up in land fill.
- We have a glass recycling site on site in the car park which is used by the hotel as well as local residents.
- New systems have been put in place to allow us to e-invoice and use e-reservations in order to reduce the amount of printing and paper usage by over 30%.
- Where possible, it is Stirrups policy to re-use printed-on office paper to reduce waste.
- Printer cartridges are recycled and all printers have an automatic sleep mode to reduce the amount of electricity used.
- Stirrups has installed a printer network solution which has reduced the need of individual desktop printers by 50%.
food & drink
- Due to our enviable location within 10 acres of grounds, our kitchen is able to have its own vegetable and herb garden which allows external vegetable deliveries to be reduced, especially in the summer. It also provides a perfect area for composting.
