Newly Engaged? Congratulations!

There is nothing more exciting (and stressful) than planning your special day – and we should know, having helped 100’s of couples over the years create the most wonderful memories of their wedding day. It can be daunting to know where to begin when planning a wedding – but fear not, we have put together some top tips to help you kick start your preparations:

  1. Location, Location, Location

The all-important venue can make the difference when planning a truly memorable experience. As nobody can control the weather sadly, it is always important to pick a venue which provides the best of all worlds so you can focus on enjoying the occasion. Remember, photographs will capture the day forever (helpful when often it goes so quickly for the happy couple) so picking a venue that provides a timeless backdrop that appeals to your tastes is a must! Consider your themes, guests and your expectations for the day when looking at venues – you really want to find a place that’s perfectly suited to you and your dreams for your special day.

  1. Wedding Planner

Whilst it’s always exciting and important to maintain control over planning your wedding (it is YOUR special day after all) there can be so many things to remember that it can become a tad stressful. Having an experienced wedding planner can help relieve the pressure, guiding you through the planning stages with timely and insightful help. They also have great knowledge of the best suppliers in your area ensuring all aspects are taken care off. Most venues should have an experienced team who can help – so don’t be afraid to make the most of this asset!

  1. Capturing the memories

We said it before and we’ll say it again! Photography is an essential way to capture the treasured memories of your special day. Often you are so wrapped up in the occasion, timings and duties of the day you don’t get the opportunity to witness and enjoy the happy snippets taking place amongst family and friends sharing your love. Choosing a photographer is a very personal experience – find a few who suit the style you’re looking for and arrange to meet them (ideally at the venue). It is always best to select a photographer who gets ‘you’ and can relate to your personality – this will ensure they truly capture the day through your eyes and provide you with a lifetime keepsake.

  1. The Guest List

Nothing strikes fear into the heart of an engaged couple like having to choose their guest list. Whether it’s the extended family, friends or colleagues – something has to give in order to meet your capacity and inevitably it will be a difficult decision. But the key thing is to know your number and try your hardest to stick to it, if nothing else this will at least help you plan financially. Remember, the day is for you and those most important to you so start with your list for the wedding breakfast. Then you can always add more people when looking at the evening reception. A golden rule to remember when considering ‘fringe’ guests – how likely are they to be significant to your future? If you truly cannot answer this and are inviting them through a sense of duty, it may be time to be a little more ruthless!

  1. Quality time is essential

The most important thing to remember always is why you started this process! Yes it can be stressful and yes there will be a thousand things to remember and plan and pay for, but it’s also the most wonderful day of your lives and one you will cherish forever. So make sure the two of you enjoy organising your special day as much as possible – why not have a date night at the venue to familiarise yourselves with the setting and the team? Take your bridesmaids or groomsmen for a drink and plan your stag/hen do’s? Whatever you decide – make the most of this incredible time.
